Grade 8 Parents Night at Bishop Ryan
On November 28, 2018 Bishop Ryan hosted an open house for the next generation of Celt-X students and their parents!
Well actually, it was Grade 8 Night, when our district elementary schools Grade 8 students and families come to see what our high school has to offer!
Our robot, Oscar, naturally wowed the crowd. When the folks emerged from the theatre they were greeted with a stream of fuel balls flying up 12’ in the air. Soon we were surrounded with kids and parents asking about our program.
We had 5 very enthusiastic Celt-X students on-hand to give an awesome demonstration of what Oscar can do and answer all their questions.
There was a lot of interest from the kids and parents. They were amazed that a robot is put together in a short 6-week time frame, and can do so much! They were amazed at the size of the robot and that grade 9s worked on it too!
Parents were thrilled that we take kids with “no experience needed” and teach them what it takes to build a robot; that their kids will be allowed to be interactive and experience hands-on involvement even in their first year. They were impressed that the kids get a ‘taste’ of all the jobs of our team at our first off-season competition and can then learn all that is needed for the job of their choosing prior to our first competition.
A group of St. Matthews students came running over gushing that they would be joining Celt-X next year and that they were on the FLL team this year, heading into the Qualifying Competition on December 1st….. Turns out they placed 1st of their competition and earned themselves a ticket to the Provincial Championships …. And … one of our Celt-X students, Andrew C., was their mentor – Great Work St. Mathews Robostangz! Good luck at Provincial Champs!!
We look forward to having the Robostangz kids, as well as all other kids we met that night, on our team next year!
